Our home office is located in Memphis, but we also have offices in Nashville, Jackson TN, Littlerock and Southaven MS. The certified landscape technicians at Pugh's Earthworks are skilled at all aspects of commercial landscaping service. One very important area is the design and build out of Hardscapes. The popularity for hardscapes has grown over the years due to the many benefits a property can receive from a well-designed and completed hardscape project. Pugh's Earthworks keeps up with all growing trends and delivers the best service to all of our customers in the five major markets we serve and surrounding areas. The presence of well-designed Hardscaping is critical to any commercial property.  Below are some things to consider as you evaluate modifications to existing or designing new hardscaping. Aesthetics - When clients, employees and vendors visit your commercial property, the presence of beautifully designed, installed and maintained hardscape will add definition and a sense of organization to the property. Hardscapes act as a frame to accent the colorful flower beds and decorative trees that you have selected to display. Typically, the most practical and durable hardscapes are built from heavy materials such as concrete, stone and wood. In addition to the appearance, these beautiful landscapes can be an outdoor oasis of sorts allowing employees to take a lunch break outdoors and perhaps take a brief walk around the property. If the property is a cemetery, hotel, hospital or retail shopping center, the same benefits will exist for customers or hospital patients. Pugh's Earthworks services these types of businesses. Safety - The best design of a hardscape will be well thought out in terms of the safety it provides to pedestrians. The Pugh's Earthworks technicians will carefully draft and review with our Commercial Property client what we feel makes the most practical sense for your property. Realizing that many people from employees, customers, vendors, delivery trucks etc.  will be traversing the property, we want to create a safe environment. Increase Property Value - Protecting and increasing the real estate value of a commercial property is always a major goal. Pugh's Earthworks knows this and therefore in the materials we use to create lovely hardscapes, we are careful to select good quality materials that also provide functionality. For example, we can construct natural brick, stone, interlocking pavers, flagstone cement, foot paths, and sidewalks. Then for purposes of preventing ground erosion and water conservation, we build retaining walls made of stacked stone, brick, or other materials. We also can turn these retaining walls into a natural seating area if our customer desires. Adding outdoor fireplaces is also a great feature. These allow people to enjoy the outdoors during the winter months. Protect Your Trees from the Cold Winter with the Help of Pugh’s Earthworks

Pugh's Earthworks Pugh's Earthworks is a top tier Commercial Landscape Company in the Mid-South. Our home office is Memphis, and we have other offices in Nashville, Jackson TN, Littlerock and Southaven MS. We have many satisfied customers as our mission is to make the customer's needs, the top priority. It is not too soon to start thinking about cold weather proofing your commercial property. This includes valuable trees. These are expensive to replace and take years to grow. Unlike humans or wildlife, trees are stationary. There is no place for them to go to get warm. Nature did provide them with the ability to shed leaves. This allows them to require less water. Then nature does allow them to go through some cell changes but at the end of the day, they count on humans to take care of them. That is where a professional and certified landscape technician can assist. Pugh's Earthworks employs a talented team of experienced and certified landscape technicians. Below are some of the important steps our team will address to protect your trees: Root Protection - Watering is a crucial step. Prior to first ground freeze, our team will be sure that ample water is applied around the tree soil. After the ground freezes, it is not necessary to water and the water applied prior to the freeze allows the tree to absorb and retain lots of moisture. The second step is to mulch around the tree. Roots can be damaged if temperatures drop to low like 15 degrees Fahrenheit for example. Pugh's Earthworks will apply mulch where needed. In addition, during the sidewalk and road clearing process for deicing, they will take extra precautions to ensure road salt does not get into the area that could be absorbed by the tree roots. Salt is bad for the roots and if absorbed into the trees structure can severely stunt the tree or kill it. Wrap the Trunk - A unique problem is something called sunscald. This occurs when the daytime temperature is warm, but the nighttime temperature is freezing or below. This can cause damage to the tissue of the tree. Pugh's Earthworks will use a special commercial grade plastic tree guard wrap to protect your trees from sunscald. Another benefit of the wrap is that it keeps deer from damaging the tree trunk when they use it to smooth their antlers. There are lots of deer in the markets Pugh's serves. Pruning - Late Fall and Winter is a great time to prune trees. One thing you do not want is for ice to build up on weak or damaged limbs. They will surely snap under the weight of the ice and that can cause damage to the tree. The Pugh's Earthworks team will carefully examine each tree on your property and remove dead or weak branches that could be problematic during the harsh cold winter.   Shop Now for Gallery of Services     Pugh’s Earthworks is strongly committed to [...]

We service Hospitals, Cemetaries, Retail Shopping Centers, Industrial Properties and Office Complexes to name a few so you can image that each one offers unique challenges. Properties with steep terrains often require that our team build retaining walls to prevent the erosion of the lawn or flower beds. Some of the markets Pugh's Earthworks serves are hilly for example Littlerock and Memphis. There are several steps involved in building a retaining wall. The Pugh's Earthworks team is trained to build and to repair existing retaining walls. The typical steps involved to build a retaining wall typically include most of the following key steps and processes: Prepare a Trench - This is step one of the critical steps. In order to have a blueprint of where to dig, the area must be staked and marked with a Mason's Line. Add Drainage - Pugh's will use the proper drainpipe to allow for water to flow around the wall. Improper drainage will cause water to collect behind the wall which over time will cause it to weaken. Begin the Construction - The base blocks will be installed correctly so that as the wall is built it should have a natural lean into the hill and not lean away from the hill. Install Landscaping - This may not seem like a mission critical step, but actually it is very important. A major concern is the size of the plant or small tree. Depending on the variety, Pugh's Earthworks will know the proper planting distance from the wall to prevent the roots causing any damage to the wall's structural soundness. Existing Retaining Walls that have weakened over time need to be addressed as well. The Pugh's team is skilled at making repairs to holes in mortar, loose bricks, damaged drainage and other times of obvious problems. Pugh’s Earthworks Offers Commercial Snow and Ice Treatment Services

Pugh's Earthworks Pugh's Earthworks provides Commercial Landscape and Maintenance services throughout Tennessee, including Memphis, Jackson, and Nashville plus Little Rock, Arkansas and Southaven MS.  Our monthly seasonal landscape care for lawns includes professional lawn care, including irrigation and sprinklers, fertilizing, reseeding, aeration, and pest control. According to this year's Farmer's Almanac, which has been published since 1818, the upcoming winter is expected to be wetter with more snow in Tennessee.  Historically winter conditions in the Volunteer State have been somewhat sporadic. This winter appears to be a little more predictable and with more precipitation. While the really colder temperatures may not occur until mid to late January, now is a great time to visit with a Pugh's Earthworks Certified Landscape Technician regarding our full scope of services which include snow and ice treatment. Our all-inclusive services focus on addressing specific seasonal landscape issues. In winter, the seasonal issues involve snow and ice. We often experience sidewalks and walkways that are covered in snow or that have iced over. The last thing we want is to have someone fall on the way to our business because of these inclement conditions or feel like they cannot get to our front door. And, for those with residences, we want to help those who cannot take care of these winter issues. Our snow and ice treatment plans include a range of treatments. These include a salt application prior to an impending storm. This strategy can help prevent the snow and ice from sticking to the roads. Once the snow and ice hits, then we switch to snowplows that can help move snow. While we can't clear all the snow, our services enable more people to use your parking lots and the area surrounding your facility. Our goal is to make this snow and ice treatment program as affordable as possible. We offer it as an add-on service to your existing monthly landscape and lawn maintenance program you have with us, which allows us to keep the price low for all customers. The snow and ice treatment program are available to residential clients as well as commercial clients throughout Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. This includes HOAs and COAs as well as shopping centers and institutional facilities. Contact Pugh's now regarding Commercial Landscape and Maintenance services be prepared when winter strikes! Pugh’s Earthworks Provides Year-Round Commercial Landscaping Services

Pugh's Earthworks Pugh's Earthworks provides Year-Round Commercial Landscaping Services. Commercial property owners in the Mid-South region we support will not find a better Commercial Landscaping vendor to protect their valuable property. Whether the property is a hotel, retail shopping center, cemetery, church, school, industrial park and more, we have the skill, licensing and passion to provide the best service in the industry. Now that the weather is starting to cool down, it is a good time to consider adding new or replacing dead trees and shrubs. Although it may not seem like it due to the colder temperatures and changing weather, winter is still a good time to plant trees and shrubs. Here's why. First, plants, trees, and shrubs all store energy during the growing season that they then use in the fall and winter to grow roots. In fact, most root growth occurs during these seasons. Second, the stress levels of trees and shrubs are reduced because of the lack of foliage and the minimal new growth. Third, there is considerably less water that needs to be provided in order to keep these new plantings going. Fourth, pruning is not necessary unless there happens to be a broken branch. By not having to prune, there is less risk that you will damage any part of the tree or shrub that is getting ready to grow in the springtime. To make the most of these winter planting advantages, the Pugh's Earthworks team realizes that Mulching is a critical step to take when you are planting trees and shrubs in winter. Mulch provides a way to maintain constant soil temperatures. That way, plants can still grow roots when the soil temperature stays above 45 degrees. By applying a good layer of mulch, you also help to keep soil moisture at a constant level. Another critical step is using less fertilizer and only a type that is designed to promote root growth while minimizing nutrients for foliage growth. You do not want to stimulate growth. For trees planted in the winter where there is considerable wind, stake the tree to prevent undue stress on the new roots. Of course, if the ground is frozen solid and unworkable because it is too late in the winter, then it becomes more of a challenge and the Pugh's team will know how to address that. They may store unplanted shrubs in a sheltered spot where there is a southern exposure. Add leaves or mulch to keep them insulated. Then they will water every few days. When growth starts in early spring the Pugh's team will prune away any damaged branches and feed with a balanced organic fertilizer.
