Beautiful Multi Terrain Landscaped Cemetery Lands Little Rock Landscaping Little Rock Arkansas is a beautiful city. With its rolling hills and river it is breathtaking. For a landscaper it can be a challenge and it takes the expertise of qualified and skilled landscaping company like Pugh's Earthworks to properly address the terrain variations. When landscaping slopes and hillsides there are several things landscapers must keep in mind. Trying to walk on slopes and can be difficult so careful planning to ensure a safe walk way is important. Then with hillsides there is always the potential hazard of soil runoff. Barriers have to be constructed so the soil remains intact. Keeping valuable nutrients from washing away with the runoff is critical. Properly landscaped, hillsides can be spectacular. Advantages to a hill is that you have a better view to visualize and create a perfect combination of plants, flowers and erosion preventing materials. Sometimes it is evident that additional topsoil will be needed if the hill is mostly rocks. Planting the proper flowers and shrubs in the available pockets will render a spectacular landscaped area. In addition to the variation of flowers and plants, stone walls are also a wonderful addition to a hilly landscape. Not only are they attractive but they are extremely functional with offering several benefits. In addition to helping to retain the soil and the nutrients, the stone can create its own micro-climate. This is because stone heats up from the sun and tends to retain that heat during the night. This often allows plants to grow in that area when they would not grow in other surrounding areas. Having a building that is situated on a hill can be stunning to the viewer.  The addition of stairways, paths and the proper combination of shrubs, flowers and plants can add so much beauty and property value. Choosing tough plants that will not require routine trimming is important. Therefore often evergreens are a great [...]

Spring Means it’s Time To Plant Shrubs

Pugh's Earthworks Tennessee Commercial Landscape and Maintenance Services Pugh's Earthworks provides commercial landscape design and maintenance services throughout Tennessee, including Memphis, Jackson, and Nashville. We have five commercial landscape service operations in three states, including landscapes and service lawns and landscaping in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our monthly services include landscape design and maintenance, customized to your needs, budget, and seasonal situation. Now that winter is ending, it's time to think about planting for the spring time and adding more color and interest to your landscape. Shrubs are an ideal item to add because they add texture, depth, and scope to your landscape. They can be natural dividers, too, to create different sections to your commercial landscape or residential yard. Start with looking at the type of shrub you might want to add. There are flowering and non-flowering shrubs that work well in different growing zones. As your landscape partner, we can recommend shrubs that work well for your environment, including considering how much shade or sun that area may offer. Planting shrubs involves a specific process to make sure they can adapt and thrive where they are planted. Make the soil moist  before digging a hole for the shrub.  From there, dig a hole that is three or four times as wide as the container the shrub came in. However, the hole should be about the same size as the height of the containers. Fill the hole with water and then let it drain out before putting the shrub in the hole you dug. Put half the soil back into the hole and pat it down. Now, add the rest of the soil and compact that lightly. Add water and mulch around the top of the soil. For the first two months after planting the shrub, water it at least once a week if it hasn't rained. If this sounds like more work than you think you can do or you would prefer a professional to plant and manage your shrubs and landscape, then contact us. We would love to work with you and design and maintain your commercial or residential landscape.

Landscaping Should Be Deemed Essential Service

Landscaping & Lawn Maintenance Should Be Considered Essential Services Pugh's Earthworks Customers & Others This May Concern: NALP is the national trade organization representing the $82 billion landscape industry in the United States. Member companies specialize in lawn care, landscape maintenance, tree care, irrigation, and water management. Landscape professionals work daily throughout the Nation servicing homes and businesses to maintain their landscapes, sustain the environment, and take pride in our communities by enhancing and maintaining healthy green spaces. As a Nation, we are all struggling to combat the rapid transmission of the coronavirus “COVID19,”and we understand and acknowledge that in some instances, drastic steps are being taken, including shutting down businesses deemed non-essential. We are communicating with you today to assure you that landscape services are essential services and must continue during any emergency declaration or quarantine scenario. Landscapers are partners during this critical time in assisting in the protection of public health and public safety. Without the landscape industry conducting these valuable services, we will undoubtedly see increased instances where people may be harmed or become sick from other illnesses compounding our already stretched medical resources. Recently, Counties in and around the greater San Francisco metropolitan area enacted a temporary “lockdown.” We anticipate other municipalities and states to take similar precautionary steps. The “lockdown” issued by these counties exempt “essential services,” pertinent for the landscape industry is the below portion of the exemption: ix. Plumbers, electricians, exterminators, and other service providers who provide services that are necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences, Essential Activities, and Essential Businesses For the foregoing reasons, landscape services should be deemed “essential.” Landscapers are protectors of public health performing essential treatments to lawns and green spaces to reduce the transmission of dangerous and deadly diseases through pests like mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas. Landscapers protect property and maintain greenspaces that could otherwise jeopardize public safety. Unkept fields and green spaces increase the chance of injuries. Crime rates are increased in areas where green spaces are not maintained. Tree removal is also a critical function of our industry to avoid damaging homes and their families. Landscapers play a critical role in boosting morale and mental health during a difficult time for our Nation. Without landscape services fields, parks, businesses, and homes will become overgrown and unkept, which can have dramatic psychological effects on the mental and well being of our communities. Spring is a critical time of year for our industry due to the abundance of growth in the spring that requires prompt maintenance and care. Any halt or delay in landscape services during this time of year only magnifies potential safety problems and become much more difficult to maintain later in the year. Lastly, our industry is taking aggressive steps within our organizations to stop the transmission of COVID-19. Because our industry functions outside this greatly reduces the chances to come into contact with other individuals. Within the industry, strong policies are being put in place to maintain social distancing with both clients and within our teams that are working in the field. We are all in this together, and the Landscape industry stands with our public officials to stop the rapid transmission of [...]

Applying Fertilizer in the Spring Strengthens Roots and Promotes Growth

Pugh's Earthworks Tennessee Commercial Landscape and Maintenance Services Pugh's Earthworks provides commercial landscape design and maintenance services throughout Tennessee, including Memphis, Jackson, and Nashville. We have five commercial landscape service operations in three states, including landscapes and service lawns and landscaping in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our services include landscape design, landscape and lawn maintenance, pest control, and seasonal services like snow and ice removal. As part of the regular maintenance we provide businesses and residences, it is important to regularly fertilize and feed a lawn and surrounding landscape with fertilizer. Doing so in the spring provides a way to help strengthen roots and promote essential growth for grass, shrubs, and more. With the spring season just starting, it's a critical time to get fertilizing done. This is because grasses start putting their energy into root development. It's a good time to give grass a helping hand. But, you don't want to overdo the fertilizing because grass and plants could use the help throughout the season to sustain that same level of energy to get all the growing they need to get done. Therefore, we tend to do more fertilizing during the mid to late spring. We adhere to a strict process for fertilizing your lawn because we know this optimizes results while minimizing any damage that fertilizing mistakes can cause. Our philosophies to veer on the side of less fertilizer than too much. This will help to eliminate the chance of burning those fragile new blades of grass. We also use equipment that helps us spread the fertilizer evenly. The fertilizer is applied in a crisscross manner to ensure complete coverage. All of our landscape professionals wear protective gear to keep their eyes and skin safe from the fertilizer. We also focus on clean up to leave your commercial lawn or residential lawn looking as tidy as possible. That often involves cleaning up excess fertilizer from driveways, patios, and sidewalks. We also schedule your irrigation system to work in partnership with the spring feeding of fertilizer to get the best results possible from this part of our landscape service. Contact us today to find out how we can help with this essential landscape service and provide care for all your lawn and landscaping needs.

Here are five benefits to opting to work with a commercial landscape design and maintenance company like Pugh's Earthworks: 1. Creates an attractive look that matches your brand First impressions are everything as a prospect drives up to your business. Whether it's in a retail center, office building, or standalone property, it has to look nice and well-maintained. That's because how it looks provides an impression of what the business might be like. You want them to stop, park, and come in and do business with you rather than keep on driving. A commercial landscape company knows how to create an inviting look to draw customers in. 2. Helps you become an eco-friendly business You may not know how to change your landscape so it uses less water or takes advantage of eco-friendly practices. That's when it makes sense to leave it to the commercial landscape professional who understands how to use native plants and design an eco-friendly landscape that contributes to the environment rather than takes away precious natural resources. 3. Increases productivity You can focus more on your business and less on the time-consuming activity of taking care of your landscape. Plus, will be inspired and motivated by the attractive landscape to get more done. Working with a commercial  landscape design professional, you can also add things like a patio and outdoor seating to encourage employees to go outside and enjoy their breaks, so they come back refreshed and ready to work. They may even enjoy working outside when weather permits and get more done by doing so. 4. Raises commercial property value. Similar to a residential property, the more attractive your commercial property is the more valuable it becomes should you go to sell it, lease it, or take out a loan. A commercial landscape company can help you add features like lighting, hardscape, and other features that do the most to raise value. 5. Attracts more customers.  A professional commercial landscaping company can help you attract more customers that are drawn to your business just from the inviting fountain, lighting, seating, and array of flowers, greenery, and even lawn. This attractive and natural look is a way to draw people in who might have otherwise continued to walk on by. For more information on how our commercial landscape company can help your business, please contact us.
