If you are a commercial property owner, then you know the importance of keeping your property looking its best. But what happens during the winter? Many commercial properties need to be prepared for winter by performing maintenance tasks such as relocating perennials and removing leaves. If you are looking for ways to keep your commercial landscaping healthy in the winter months, we recommend that you follow these steps:

  • Relocate Perennials
  • Remove perennials that are not winter hardy.
  • Remove perennials that are not in full bloom.
  • Remove diseased or damaged plants, as well as those out of place in the garden, such as those growing too close to walkways or other plantings.
  • Consider removing any perennials that are too big for their location; they may need to be divided every few years, so they do not overwhelm the space around them.

If a perennial has finished blooming and is not producing any new growth, it may need more time to recover before you prune it back. A few weeks after the last flower fades on a perennial, wait until new growth begins in spring to trim back the plant. If your goal is to keep plants looking neat and attractive, you will need to prune them regularly. Once you get the hang of it, annual pruning takes only a few minutes each year. Autumn Lawn Fertilization

The best time to fertilize your lawn is in late spring or early summer. Fertilizing in the autumn can cause problems with winter freezing, as well as make it more difficult for grass to recover in springtime. The type of fertilizer you use will depend on what kind of soil you have: sandy soil needs a different type than clay, which needs a different type than loamy soil. You should also consider whether your lawn has been treated with herbicides or pesticides recently–the chemicals used could interfere with the effectiveness of fertilizers and limit their lifespan in your yard.

Also consider Pugh’s Earthworks fall leaf removal services and we will make sure not all those leaves end up in landfills! If pruning has been neglected throughout summer months due primarily due high heat indices (and therefore making it difficult), now is a great time before first frost hits so that newly cut branches will not dry out prematurely while waiting around until next springtime comes around again.”

You should also consider whether your lawn has been treated with herbicides or pesticides recently–the chemicals used could interfere with the effectiveness of fertilizers and limit their lifespan in your yard. If you are fertilizing a lawn that has been treated with herbicides or pesticides recently, then you should wait until two weeks after treatment before applying fertilizer.

Autumn Leaf Removal

  • Remove dead leaves from lawns and flower beds.
  • Remove leaves from roof tops.
  • Remove leaves from around trees and shrubs.
  • Remove leaves from walkways and driveways, as well as drainage systems such as gutters, downspouts and storm drains (if you have them).

Properly dispose of leaves by mulching them into the lawn or composting them. If you have a large number of leaves, consider hiring a professional landscaper to remove them from your property. Remove leaves from walkways and driveways, as well as drainage systems such as gutters, downspouts and storm drains (if you have them). When it comes time to remove the leaves from your property, be sure to do so in a way that will not harm the environment or cause damage to your yard or garden. The best way to dispose of leaves is by mulching them into thin layers into an existing lawn or composting them.

Fall Commercial Landscaping

Pugh’s Earthworks technicians know that Fall is also a good time to perform routine maintenance on lawn mowers and other equipment. If you have any questions about how to prepare for winter, contact us today. The weather may be getting cooler, but the lawn care season is still in full swing. Now is a great time to do some fall maintenance on your commercial landscape to prepare it for winter. We suggest that you prune shrubs and trees, apply herbicides to control weeds, fertilize lawns, clean up leaves and other debris, and perform routine maintenance on your lawn mowers and other equipment.

Property Pre-Winterization

Preparing your property for winter is a great way to protect it from damage and ensure that it stays safe during the colder months. Winterizing a property is an important step in making sure that your landscaping will be ready for spring, when you can begin working on reviving it.

To get started with winterizing your commercial property, start by assessing what needs to be done. Pugh’s Earthworks technicians will at any potential hazards that could arise during these months (such as ice buildup on steps) and determine how best to manage them before they become an issue. Once this has been taken care of, start thinking about how you want to protect plants or other living things onsite: mulch may help keep ground cover warm enough through snowfall; straw bales can provide insulation around smaller trees or shrubs if they are close enough together; larger trees may require more substantial protection such as burlap bags filled with leaves or hay wrapped around their trunks.

You can also protect your property by taking steps to prevent damage from ice and snow. If you have a driveway or parking lot that is prone to frost heaves, consider applying a deicing agent such as magnesium chloride (which also helps prevent corrosion). If you do not want it on your property, there are plenty of other options for melting ice and snow that will not be harmful for plants or people.

Remove dead plants and leaves from the ground, as they can be a fire hazard. Remove any debris that can freeze and cause damage to your property, such as branches or leaves that have fallen from trees or shrubs. If there are any dead trees on the property, remove them now before they become hazardous during winter storms or spring meltdowns when sap begins flowing again in warmer weather.
