In addition, during the sidewalk and road clearing process for deicing, they will take extra precautions to ensure road salt does not get into the area that could be absorbed by the tree roots. Salt is bad for the roots and if absorbed into the trees structure can severely stunt the tree or kill it. Wrap the Trunk - A unique problem is something called sunscald.
