The Best Commercial Landscape Services in Memphis

Healthy trees are ones that have their limbs trimmed on a regular basis. Plus, it makes the landscape look great and ensures a higher level of safety that limbs or branches won’t fall unexpectedly. As a commercial landscape company, we have deep expertise and years of experience maintaining trees. Here are some tips to follow for trimming those limbs:

General Tree Trimming

A general rule of thumb is to trim or prune a tree during its dormant season. Be aware of the size of the branches that you need to remove.  Only trim branches that have weak, V-shaped, and narrow angles. Be sure to keep the branches that have strong, U-shaped angles. Then, lateral branches should be between one-half and three-quarters the diameter of the stem where it attaches to the tee. Otherwise, these branches should be removed.

Tree Pruning Tips

Crown thinning involves thinning out the limbs located near the crown of the tree. When you work on this area of the tree, keep the lateral branches as evenly spaced as possible. You’ll also need to remove the branches that cross or run against others. Crown raising is a way to provide clearance for pedestrians. When you do this pruning process, keep the live branches on at least two-thirds of the tree’s height. Crown reduction involves removing the whole branch.

Tree Trimming Techniques

Before trimming anything, identify the branch collar, which grows from the stem tissue at the bottom base of the branch. Also, look for the branch ridge, which is on the upper surface. Always cut outside the branch bark ridge and angle the cut down and away from the stem.  This technique can also be used to remove dead branches and trim back living branches.
